We are thrilled to share the incredible news that yesterday the U.S. Senate supported franchising and passed the bipartisan Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution, H.J. Res. 98, overturning the National Labor Relations Board’s (NLRB) expanded joint employer standard. This monumental achievement follows months of diligent advocacy and collaboration from YOU! And we couldn’t have done it without your support.
The passage of H.J. Res. 98 marks a significant milestone in our fight to protect the integrity of the franchise model and the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of small businesses across the nation. With this resolution, Congress has reaffirmed its commitment to franchising and provided much-needed stability for our community. Immediately following passage, IFA sent a petition to the White House with over 5,300 signatures urging President Biden to sign the legislation and protect the hundreds of thousands of local businesses from the harm in store from this rule.
We want to extend our gratitude to each and every one of you who signed the petition, reached out to lawmakers, and engaged in advocacy efforts to bring an end to this harmful rule. Your dedication and perseverance have made all the difference.
Special thanks are also due to Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV), Kirsten Sinema (I-AZ), Angus King (I-ME), and all Republicans who stood with franchising in this crucial vote. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) was the only Republican who chose to not support franchising in yesterday’s vote. But it was a historic win in the first Senate vote ever on joint employer – and your support was very effective!
As we celebrate this win, we recognize that there may still be questions and uncertainties ahead. To address these concerns, we invite you to join our upcoming webinar, “Joint Employer: Are Franchise Companies in the Clear?” on April 23 at 2:00 pm ET. This webinar will provide insights into the implications of the Court’s ruling, the legislative action, and what to expect next. We encourage you to register and participate in this important discussion.
Thank you for being a part of this historic legislative victory in the U.S. Senate yesterday. Together, we have demonstrated the power of unity and advocacy toward safeguarding the future of franchising.
